Siddha system especially focuses on alleviating physical, psychological ailments and prevention of ailments as well as enhances the longevity by improving the quality of life. It is the need of the hour to upgrade Siddha system of medicine to global heights and hence it is mandatory to validate the best practices through research and documentation so as to strengthen Siddha system as one of the prominent modalities for addressing the health care needs of the society.

Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) is an apex body for research in Siddha system of Medicine functioning under aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. It has seven peripheral institutes/units – three in Tamil Nadu, one each in Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka and New Delhi. Drug research, Literary and fundamentals research, Clinical research and Medicinal plants research are being carried out in these units.

The Council has the vision of preservation and transmission of knowledge and enhancement of the quality of research for developing drugs with quality, safety and efficacy. The same can be achieved through well-established literary, drug and clinical research so that diseases of varied aetiology can be prevented, managed or cured. The Council is undertaking scientific research in Siddha in a time-bound and cost-effective manner by also coordinating and collaborating research with other research organizations/institutions. The Council also provide consultancy services for research projects and drug development adopting classical and modern techniques with the aim of evolving evidence based Siddha drugs for optimal treatment.

Publication of important research outcomes to propagate them among the research community and all the stakeholders is need of the hour for the global acceptance of Siddha medicine. Being an growing research council under the Ministry of AYUSH, necessity of bringing out a dedicated journal for publication of all research in Siddha medicine under one umbrella is strongly felt. Hence, initiation of a dedicated periodical named as ‘Journal of Research in Siddha Medicine’ has been planned in the scenario of lack of such an official publication from this Council since its inception in the year 2010.

Journal of Research in Siddha Medicine (Abbreviated as J Res Sid Med) will be a peer reviewed biannual journal for publication of original and scientific documentation on Siddha medicine and its associated fields of sciences. Manuscripts providing experimental and literary evidences for the science exploring Siddha medicine practices are also a priority of this journal.

Good quality research reports on Siddha and other allied stream of traditional medicines like Yoga, Folk medicine, ethno medicine, medicinal plants, pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, experimental pharmacology and clinical trials will be considered for publication. Every data included in the article must be obtained employing internationally acceptable experimental protocols supported by appropriate statistical analysis.

I sincerely express my gratitude to the authorities of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India for guiding and supporting by all means for the launch of a journal for Siddha Research Council. I thank the authors for contributing research articles and congratulate them for their publication in this first issue. Suggestions are most welcome to improve the quality of future issues of journal. I appeal the research and academic fraternity to utilize the services of this journal by providing constant inputs and generous subscription.
